The story: I grew up extremely poor and remember many times when we didn’t even have electricity. I didn’t attend formal school beyond ninth grade, and so many times in my life, I felt like the tree in this picture facing strong winds. You brace yourself, hold tight, and make it through the night. Adversity either uproots or deepens your roots. If you’ve been in these winds, you know the feeling. We must stand strong, for only by growing can we give.
