Why Journals
I’m passionate about painting on things that inspire others to create, introspect, and share. Earlier as an artist, I painted on single-use objects: wood, panels, canvas – all of them designed to hold paint, not for use by others after the painting was done. So I searched for something that could be dual purpose, and ran across these vintage-feel, leather-bound journals with thick cotton deckle-edge paper. I began painting the leather covers with vivid colors and designs in a way that personalizes the already beautiful base for the person who will end up writing part of their life in it. I envision people picking each journal up and running their hand over the particular image that drew them in, before they unstrap it, open it, and begin flipping through and running their fingers over the textures, feeling the pages that are calling them to create in it. To write their story, or perhaps capture favorite quotes; to sketch in it or paint in it. To capture memories from their day or perhaps their travels. To pass sweet love notes back and forth, or maybe just to catch and compile their tears. My heart overflows knowing how these journals have helped bring joy, peace, or healing to people’s lives. It’s a process that may begin with me, but that ends when the other person decides their journey of what they’re working through, is finally over.
